Aletheia now exists in two major editions: Lite, with most viewing and editing functionality enabled, and Pro, with all the document analysis and recognition features.

Aletheia has reached a point where its support and the development of new features is almost a full-time job. Since its inception as a ground-truthing tool through its current version as a full document analysis and recognition system, it has been downloaded by several hundred individuals and organisations and has been used in several projects in different domains and by a number of service providers.

We arrived at a crossroad and had to make a decision to either abandon it (as research funding becomes even scarcer) or adopt a funding model that will sustain its maintenance and further development. We opted for the latter.

Hence, Aletheia now exists in two major editions: Lite, with most viewing and editing functionality enabled, and Pro, with all the document analysis and recognition features.

We thought carefully about staying true to our community roots and ensuring that different user groups are served as best as possible by Aletheia. Content holders can use Aletheia Lite to view and edit their digitised documents and text. Organisations and individuals wanting to use the full functionality of Aletheia Pro must license it (fees depend on type of use and volume). Academics (staff and students) can enquire and obtain academic licences of Aletheia Pro. Naturally, there is a freely downloadable limited-time trial version of Aletheia. Anyone can thus evaluate how well Aletheia fits their needs and perhaps also obtain results on a few documents (this will be sufficient for the home enthusiast, font training using Franken+ etc.)
